A: 'Dancing Bear'. Q: Who is Panathinaikos' head coach? A: Zeliko Obradovic. Q: Which rival is most important? A: Olympiacos.
This summer, Panathinaikos made one of the biggest moves in the EuroLeague by bringing in a French star from the NBA. Nicknamed 'Dancing Bear', he brings not only physical strength but also a strong personality, ready to face arch-rivals Olympiacos in the fiery Greek derbies.
In an exclusive interview, he shared: 'Everyone tells me that no matter what happens during the season, we cannot lose to them!' – a statement showing the immense pressure the green team faces every time they meet their city rivals.
Under legendary coach Zeliko Obradovic, Panathinaikos is building an experienced squad. Alongside the French star, the team boasts NBA veterans like Kendrick Nunn, Nigel Hayes-Davis, and Jerrian Grant. Grant praised Obradovic: 'He looks at every detail, interferes in everything. He is a great coach.'
The presence of six international players in the roster highlights Panathinaikos' ambition to reach the top. The French star also didn't hide his desire to bring Kevin Durant to Athens: 'I will talk to Kevin, I want him to come here. We will play the most beautiful basketball together.' Though highly unlikely, it shows the team's vision and confidence.
However, alongside optimism, the article also points out potential risks. Dependence on veteran imports like Mathias Lessort, Fal, and Francisco could affect endurance over the long season. The psychological pressure of the Greek derby could also lead to unnecessary injuries.
Nevertheless, with the team spirit shown in photos taken together at the Platinum Lounge, where players dined and laughed, Panathinaikos has a healthy locker room atmosphere. The French star calls his compatriots 'brothers', and the cheerful interaction with Lessort indicates a cohesive group.
Can the 'Dancing Bear' turn Panathinaikos into a winning machine, or will derby pressure overwhelm them? The answer will come in the coming months. But one thing is certain: this EuroLeague season will be exciting with the return of a charismatic star.
